Ljubljana, The Town Square with City Hall festively decorated at New Year's time

The TRA 2008 conference will be held in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Ljubljana is home of some 270,000 inhabitants and is also political, cultural, educational and scientific centre of Slovenia. This compact but complete capital city is frequently near the top of the lists of 'must see' cities on international tourism surveys.

Slovenia’s central location in Europe makes it easily accessible from all parts of Europe as well as from overseas and our small but varied nation and its cities present a pleasant surprise for visitors from all over the world. Slovenia is the green heart of Europe lying between the mountains of Austria and Italy, the Panonian plains of Hungary and the warm clear Adriatic Sea. Alpine peaks in the northwest region of the country with many glacial valleys, gorges, waterfalls and lakes appeal to visitors looking for peace in the mountains as well as sports climbers, skiers, canoeists and others in search of relaxation and excitement in everyday life. The southern coastal zone of the country is rich with history as well as varied sensual pleasures which tempt any and all visitors. A specific region in the centre of Slovenia’s coastal area is full of caves (including Europe’s largest) with underground lakes and rivers which plunge into the depths of the earth – it is the original Karst.  The caves and other attractions are interesting for the merely casual visitor or the more serious cave explorer. Not only is this zone geologically interesting but the soil and climate combine to produce one of the most distinctive wines in Europe – Teran – which yields a rich flavor experience that accompanies the local culinary specialties perfectly.
